My Path

When you think over what you do for God, to demonstrate your love for God, what comes to mind? Prayer? Worship? Bible Study? Meditation? Do the actions that are usually associated with a pious life come to mind? And, if they do, are you attracted to them or disquieted by them? Do you think of them with enjoyment, even excitement, or do they strike you as duty, as a requirement, as work? What if you’re right? What if the way you feel about these kinds of things is the right way to feel? What I’m getting at is, how are you wired and do you have to be wired like everyone else, or even like the people you think God really likes? We can all picture someone that we might suggest God really likes. The good, pious person who is dutiful, goes to church, reads their Bible, spends time in prayer… however we want to imagine them. Or maybe it’s the person who goes off to the mission field, gives up their life, and brings the gospel to indigenous, isolated people groups. But… it might be that God has some people do that because that’s what they are good at, while we might be good at something else, something totally different. There were a lot of people who followed Jesus, but not all of them were Apostles. The chief objective of a Christian's life, I would suggest, is to do what God calls us to do. What is in your path? What catches your attention that is in front of you? How can you affect the life of the person who happens to be where you are at any given moment? God isn’t calling all of us to be missionaries or Bible students, but he is calling every single one of us to serve others with our gifts. Who is in your path today? Maybe it is the person who is on your mind and maybe you should write them a letter. Blessings, Geoff
